Bharatha Natyam lecture
Pathmashree Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, a renowned dancer from India
will present a Bharatha Natyam lecture cum demonstration at the Indian
Cultural Centre, 133, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 4 at 6 p.m. today.
The event is open to all.
Infant Nipuna needs help
Nipuna Uddipana Jayasinghe, a 2 1/2 month infant of Vadiyawatte,
Pituwala Road, Elpitiya, is suffering from a congenital heart disease
and specialist doctors treating the child have recommended a complicated
surgery to be performed at Miot Hospitals, Chennai. The total cost
required is in the region of Rs. 650,000. The parents are unable to
afford this large bill.
They request the general public to help them financially to enable
their infant undergo this surgery which will save her life.

Monkeys a menace
It is reported that from the Karamindula, Wetestenna and
Handawalapitiya villages, troups of monkeys have entered these villages
and have started to destroy the crops grown by the villagers. In
addition the monkeys have started to enter the houses in search of food
say residents of in these villages.
Bank informed of alleged fraud

Ahamed recently had brought to the notice of a private bank that a loan
of Rs. 80 million had been obtained by a non resident without his
approval.
Ahamed had informed the bank about an alleged Rs. 630 million racket
connected to another case pending before the Wattala Magistrate Courts.
He also had informed the private bank that if the bank failed to take
any action against his complaint, he will take steps to bring this mater
to the notice of the Criminal Investigations Department.
Farmers happy

Paddy farmers in Hasalaka, Minipe, Mahaaswadduma, Morayaya,
Hadungamuwa and Mihiyagaya areas are happy that they are receiving very
good prices for their paddy crops. Samba and Nadu paddy are now sold at
Rs. 32 and Rs. 30 per kilo. |
