Troops attached to 58 Division engaged in the biggest ever hostage rescue mission in the military history, yesterday ended the months’ long forcible detention of tens of thousands civilians by the LTTE, after entering the No Fire Zone in the early hours of yesterday with the capture of the three km long Tiger earth bund in Puthumattalan and Ampalavanpokkanai, military sources told the Daily News.

Just half an hour!

Following the huge influx of civilians into the Army controlled areas from the No Fire Zone through out yesterday, President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday called upon the international community to exert pressure on Prabhakaran to let him grant freedom of movement for just half an hour.

New 24 hr ultimatum to LTTE

Military offensive continues:

The Security Forces will continue their military operations until it rescues the last civilian held hostage by the LTTE and the last LTTE leader is killed or surrenders to the Security Forces, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told the Daily News yesterday.
