To fight against Swine Flu:
UN Chief calls for solidarity
USA: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon launched on Monday a dramatic
call for world solidarity to face a possible swine flu pandemic already
affecting Mexico, the United States, Canada and to Europe, where cases
have been reported in Spain, Denmark and Scotland.
This disease outbreak shows that "in our interconnected world, no
nation can face a threat of these dimensions alone, said Ban in a press
briefing at the UN headquarters in New York.
He said to be in close contact with Director of the World Health
Organization (WHO), Margaret Chan, and other high ranking UN officials
in charge of sanitary, epidemiological-related issues.
"But we still don't know if the effects of this virus A of the swine
flu (H1N1) will be slight or severe," he admitted.
Ban said this international health emergency "will be the first test
for preparations made by the international community in the last three
years to face a pandemic." United Nations,
