Grant McCann Erickson, who won the first ever Effie Awards with
'Poppy Day' as one of its award winning entries, was honoured recently
by the Ex-Servicemen's Association for 14 years of committed service and
pathbreaking work for a truly worthwhile cause.
The poppy day ceremonies are a way of paying tribute to the soldiers
who have given their lives in the war to protect those of us who call
our freedom and safety our own thanks to them.
The funds raised are channelled toward housing for soldiers'
families, schooling for their children, care and income for parents who
lost their children through the war and other facilities and means of
benefiting those who have given so much to Sri Lanka.
In times of war as well as when that war is drawing to a close, these
brave and selfless individuals should be honoured and remembered.
The country as a whole sees Poppy Day as a way in which to show these
brave men and women that their sacrifices and efforts are indeed
appreciated and remembered and that their lives will be honoured and
their names not forgotten with the ending of the war.
Commodore Edward de Silva of the Ex-Servicemen's Association in his
speech, placed on record the highly valuable services rendered by
Grants.
