Nepal adopts measures to boost agricultural sector
NEPAL: Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) said it has
adopted numerous measures to ensure food security, nutrition security
and income generating activities in the sector of agriculture in the
country, nepalnews.com reported on Friday.
While speaking at a press conference held in the capital Kathamndu by
the NARC on the eve of its 18th anniversary on Thursday, the council
officials said that policy of Integrated Crop Management as well as
Research In Use adopted by the NARC has helped in sustainable
development of the agriculture sector.
The NARC also said it is using IT (Information and Technology)
related tools like e-agriculture, Nepal Rice Knowledge Bank (on- line)
in order to enhance its research procedures by exchanging information
both nationally and internationally. "In the same vein, we have
conducted projects under the concept of Water-saving technologies and
Cereal system Initiative for South Asia to augment the production of
rice and corn across the country," said the officials.
According to NARC, it has also adopted the concept of "Model NARC
Village, Scientists with Farmers" from this year at regional level apart
from carrying out necessary homework to establish Gene Bank.
NARC has also applied Solar Radiation technology which is expected to
help grow Boro Rice in the southern Nepal's Terai region in every
season.
