Be true patriots, rebuild Nation - Secretary to President

All public servants should dedicate themselves towards rebuilding the Nation considering themselves as true patriots, said Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga on Thursday.

Weeratunga was speaking at a ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat, Colombo to honour the Security Forces and Police for liberating the country from terrorism.

Weeratunga said President Mahinda Rajapaksa had removed the word ‘minority’ from our vocabulary. In his address to the Nation, the President said hereafter there won’t be a section of the people termed as a minority in this country.

Henceforth there would be only two different communities namely those who loved the country and those who did not love the country.

Public servants as people who loved the country should work hard in a dedicated manner to assist the national rebuilding effort. As much as the heroic Forces sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from terrorists, the public servants too should render a similar service to usher in a prosperous Nation to the people, he said.

Weeratunga said the Government was forced with the challenging task of rebuilding civilians’ lives displaced due to terrorism in the North and the support of public servants was needed to overcome that daunting challenge.

All staff attached to the Presidential Secretariat were present on the occasion.
