The 50th elephant was born at Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage yesterday.

This elephant was born to Suranganee and Jayathu of the same orphanage.

Suranganee, a she-elephant was brought down from Surangalgama in Trincomalee in 1997.

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage which was opened on February 16, 1975 recorded the birth of an elephant for the first time on July 5, 1985.
