Trader faces music for no price tag

Panadura Magistrate Thisara Rajasinghe imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000
on R.S.S. Denipitiya, a partner of a wholesale trading company in
Panadura when he pleaded guilty to a charge of selling five kilos of red
rice without exhibiting the price. S.K. Hewagama, investigating officer
of the Kalutara branch of the Consumer Authority prosecuted.
BoI nod for 462 new projects
The Board of Investment has approved 462 new projects worth Rs. 461
billion during 2008.
Newly 126 projects are foreign investments and 99 are joint ventures,
while the rest are local based investments.
The majority of the projects are of service oriented and 154 are of
industrial based ones. Service based ventures include housing and
property development, computer software and data, hotel and recreation,
educational and training institutions and commercial and communication
fields.
Cinema Rasawindana program
The National Film Corporation has made necessary arrangements to hold
the ‘Cinema Rasawindana’ program at the Kelaniya University premises at
2 p.m. today.
This program is aimed at developing the aesthetic talents of Sri
Lankan youth in a fruitful manner so that they could contribute to the
qualitative and healthy development of local cinema.
Veteran Cinema Director Prasanna Withanage will deliver a lecture on
the title ‘Jeevithayata Sinemawa’ followed by the screening of the
classic film ‘Paris Labyrinth’.
Blood donation for war heroes
The Youth Club of Thapasgalagawa, Weere and Metiyagane in Dambadeniya
has arranged a pinkama to invoke blessings on the Security Forces which
liberated the country from terrorism.
This will include a blood donation campaign to assist war heroes at
the Metiyagane Mayurawathie Raja Maha Viharaya on Sunday, May 24 at 8
a.m. and a Bodhi Pooja at the venue at 7 p.m.
Arts festival
An arts festival themed Anurangie-4 presented by the Aesthetic Unit
of the Yakkala, Aluthgama Anura Central College will be held at the
school hall on May 31.
The show times will be 10.30 a.m., 3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.
Ceremonial opening
P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya
The ceremonial opening of the new Court complex in Nuwara Eliya will
take place on May 31 at 2.00 p.m. by Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva.
The new Court complex which has been constructed in adjacent to the
District Court building, for which the Chief Justice laid the foundation
stone a year ago, is a three storey building to comprising the High
Court, District Court, Magistrate Court and the Labour Tribunal. The
total cost for this project is Rs. 53 million.
Tangalle water supply scheme benefits 38,000
The Tangalle water supply scheme built at a cost of Rs. 1.07 billion
funded by UNICEF provides drinking water to a large number of families.
This water supply scheme has extended coverage to Tangalle and
Beliatta areas and ensuring safe drinking water to the current
population of 38,000. |
