Dilantha faces tough competition this year
BERNARD PERERA
The two time Malaysian Super series driver from Sri Lanka Dilantha
Malagamuwa faces tough competition this year with many power packed cars
on the track for the 2009 Super Series.
The first round of the series commenced over the weekend in Malaysia
with two rounds of races done on Saturday and Sunday.
In both events the champion driver was seen on the podium when he was
placed second behind Weng a Malaysian who is making a strong bid to oust
the champion. Dam Wira who was placed third on these stages was the
driver who challenged Dilantha in previous years with his high powered
'Radical'.
Dilantha speaking over the phone said that it is the power of the
engine that matters for me now. Both contenders who are posing a big
threat on this track are with cars with more power and they are capable
of moving very fast on straights.
They too admit that they are not capable of handling the corners so
effectively but on the straights they manage to make the maximum to gain
the advantage from their machines.
He further added that with many more rounds to be completed during
the season he hopes to make changes to the machine to get the maximum to
win the championship and to bring honour to his motherland.
He also added that he finds it very difficult to continue this kind
of competitive racing minus sponsors as he had pulled out every bit of
savings for racing. |
