Batticaloa Mayor, 3 others join SLFP

Four members of Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP), including Batticaloa Mayor Shivageetha Prabhakaran and a Batticaloa Municipal Council member, have joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Batticaloa Mayor Prabhakaran yesterday said she has officially resigned from her party Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) and has joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Prabhakaran had reportedly handed over her letter of resignation to the leader of TMVP and Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan at that meeting, according TMVP party sources.

She has also resigned from her advisory post in the party. She and her husband Kanagasabei Prabhakaran have left the party to join the SLFP, sources said. Batticaloa TMVP Municipal Council Member Kanakasabei Preman had left the party and also TMVP member Kanagasabai Pradeepan followed suit, sources added.
