Lak Sathosa outlet opened in Settikulam

Trade, Marketing Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Services Minister Bandula Gunawardhana yesterday opened a Lak Sathosa outlet and showrooms of the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation and State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) in the welfare villages of Settikulam,Vavuniya to provide essential commodities to IDPs at cheaper rates.

After an observation tour in the centers and villages where over 200,000 displaced persons were accommodated, the Minister said that the displaced civilians will be greatly relieved as nine Lak Sathosa branches have been established in the relief villages in Settikulam.

Meanwhile, IDPs can purchase their necessary items like food, beverages, textile items, shoes and medicine through the STC and SPC showrooms. This would provide a better service to consumers and producers alike. "We have planned to open four more STC showrooms in welfare villages for the benefit of IDPs.

The Minister said that he expects to open a CWE outlet to provide processed foods at low rates for IDPs. Under the Uthuru Wasanthaya program, 30 Co-op cities have already been set up to provide essential items to these civilians at cheaper rates in addition to what is provided by the Government free of charge.
