Uva PC nominations from June 17

Nominations will be called for the Uva Provincial Council Election at the Badulla and Moneragala District Secretariat offices with effect from June 17 up to 12.00 noon on June 24.

According to Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake the leaders of the independent groups can deposit their money during office hours before 12.00 noon on June 23. A sum of Rs.2000 should be deposited on behalf of each candidate.

The Provincial Council Election will be conducted to elect 32 members to the Uva Provincial Council. Of them 21 members will be elected from the Badulla district while the balance 11 members will be elected from the Moneragala district.

An independent Group or a political party can submit the names of 24 candidates from the Badulla district. In addition, 14 candidates can be submitted by an independent group or a political party from the Moneragala district.

The Elections Commissioner said the date of the election will be announced once the acceptance of nominations are completed.
