Inter-Agriculture Faculty Sports Meet from June 20 to 28

The Council of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka is organizing the 5th Inter Agriculture Faculty Sports Meet this time.

It is scheduled to be held from 20th June to 28th June in 2009 at the Rajarata University playground and the Gymnasium of the Anuradhapura Municipal Council. Eight national universities have been invited to take part in this sports meet.

The opening ceremony will be held on 26th June 2009 at 9.00 a.m. at the Rajarata University playground. The Vice Chancellor of the Rajarata university of Sri Lanka, Deans of the relevant Agriculture Faculties, the District Secretary of Anuradhapura, the Mayor of the Anuradhapura Municipal Council and other university officials will participate in the opening ceremony.

The students unions of eight Agriculture Faculties have joined as National Agriculture Faculty Students Movement (NAFSM). The main objectives of this association are to build social harmony among Agriculture Faculties and give agriculture knowledge to rural people. The inter Agriculture Faculty sport meet is one of the main activities that support the above objectives.

As an initiative Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya organised the first Agri meet in year 2002 and event was held successfully, the next event was held in University of Ruhuna in the year 2003. Then the third event was planned to be hold in year 2004 in Jaffna University, but unfortunately in the year 2004 Agri meet was not hold due to security problems. Then the third Agri meet was held again in University of Peradeniya in the year 2006. The fourth Agri meet was held in Sabaragamuwa University in year 2007.
