Police enter semi-final of Holcim FA Cup

Defending champions of the Holcim FA Cup - Police, managed to secure their place in the semi-final when they defeated Air Force in a tie breaker at the CR and FC grounds. The game which was postponed due to bad ground conditions on June 26 was rescheduled to be played yesterday at this ground.

Nadeesha Pushpakumara put the Police team in front after 18 minutes of the play, but this lead they held only for further six minutes. It was Imtiaz Ahamed the national poolist who found the net to find the equaliser for the Airmen. The lemons were taken at the same score 1-1.

Second half commenced with both teams struggling to go past each other to make their way to the semis, but none could achieve their target. The full time ended as a draw.

The referee had to introduce the tie breaker system to find the winner in this game.

Police goal keeper A. Alwis with two saves made things easy for his team to reach the semi-final with the score reading 4-2 in favour of the defending champs Police SC.
