Menikhinna and Katugastota conducted mass Shramadana campaigns.
Students of Wattegama Central College, Walala A. Rathnayake National
School, Wattegama Balika Maha Vidyalaya and Madawala Madeena Central
College with their staff engaged in cleaning their school premises and
gardens.
Residents in Madawala Bazaar and Menikhinna Town cleaned the
drainages and the surrounding areas.
Scholarships to minimize school dropouts
Arrangements have been made to help in the education of students of
Samurdhi beneficiary families. Those studying the GCE Advanced Level, in
the Grama Seva Divisions under the Kalmunai Divisional Secretariat
Division will be targeted.
Action has been taken to help selected students from Samurdhi
beneficiary families under the Sisu Diriya.
Death of Caroline Anthonypillai
Caroline Anthonypillai (102), a pioneer of the Left movement in Sri
Lanka and a veteran Trade Unionist in India passed away. She is the wife
of late Tony Anthonypillai, former Member of the Lok Sabha and the
daughter of Don J. Rupasinghe Gunawardena (Boralugoda Ralahamy) and
sister of former Minister late Philip Gunawardena.
The funeral will take place at the Avissawella General Cemetery on
Wednesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. Cortege will leave residence 501,
Werellamandiya, Alubodhala, Kosgama at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
India allocates US $100m for IDPs
The Indian Government on Monday set aside Rs 500 crore (100 million
US Dollars) for rehabilitation of the Internally Displaced Persons and
reconstruction of areas in Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka devastated by
the war against the LTTE.
Presenting the Union Budget for the year 2009/10 in the Lok Sabha,
Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that the UPA Government is
committed to ensuring that the Sri Lankan Tamils enjoy their rights and
legitimate aspirations within the territorial sovereignty and framework
of the country’s constitution, The Hindu reported yesterday.
Mukherjee said the External Affairs Ministry was working closely with
Sri Lankan Government to ensure the rehabilitation of the displaced
people.

One dead, five injured in crash at Vavuniya
One Police Constable was killed and another five injured when
Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s
backup vehicle skidded off the road and crashed into a lamp post at
Ganeshapuram, Vavuniya last evening.
The Minister was in the vehicle which came behind the backup vehicle.
When the accident took place, the Minister who had attended a discussion
held at the Vavuniya District Secretariat was on his way for an
inspection tour of the Menik Farm relief centre at Settikulam.
Police Constable Ranawaka died on the spot while the five injured
security guards were admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital.
Settikulam Police is conducting further investigations.

Lecture
A lecture on Quality Management and Quality Control - S5 by Retired

difficulties due to lack of travel facilities.
They have only one bicycle and a motorbike to travel to various
sites.
The Wildlife Department provides a Rs. 1,500 fuel allocation per
