Saman Kumara wins Beach Race

Saman Kumara of Special Task Force, Pottuvil won the first prize in
the Beach Race organized by Arugambay Travels and Tours Ltd. in view of
the International Surfing Competition held in Arugambay while the
women's race was won by a Swedish Mina Heinonea Bay last week. Both
these winners were given a cash award of Rs. 50,000 and 25,000
respectively.
A good number of competitors were in the frame to participate in the
competition from all three communities and as such a keen contest was
witnessed.
In the men's event Kopalasunderam Uhenthraja of Thambiluvil and D.G.S.
Sampath of Navy secured the second and third places and won the cash
award of Rs. 15,000 and 10,000 respectively. The second and the third
places for the women were won by L.A. Chalani Malika of Arugambay and C.
Jane Vann of USA.
Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education M.M. Mustapha who
was chief-guest inaugurated the Beach Race and also gave away the awards
to the winners at the ending point at Arugambay Surfing site.
Pottuvil Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman M.S.M. Marzook and the Members of
the Pradeshiya Sabha, Tourism Minister's Co-cordinators M.I.M. Ibrahim
and the Advisor to the Arugambay Travels and Tours Ltd. Ismail
Athamlebbe were also present. Consolation prizes for the winners who
excelled in the competition were also given to both men and women.
