Kidney donor wanted

M.Z.M. Hyder Ali (59) a former Grama Niladhari of No. 13, Revatha Road, Welithara, Balapitiya is suffering from end stage kidney failure. Consultant Nephrologist Dr. A.L.M. Nazar has recommended a kidney transplant to save his life.

At a discussion held in Parliament with the participation of Susil Premajayanth, Minister of Education, Dhammika Kitulgoda, Secretary General of Parliament, David Saudan, Director of the Nestle Lanka PLC and Anil Samarasekara, Sergeant-at-Arms of Parliament, Nestle Lanka PLC has agreed to implement the proposal of W. J. M. Lokubandara, Speaker to serve a glass of milk to schoolchildren visiting Parliament during sittings, free of charge starting from August 6, 2009. Bodhi Pooja to bless country

A Bodhi Pooja to invoke blessings on the President, Defence Secretary, Forces' Chiefs, Chief of Defence Staff and all other war heroes, injured and disabled war heroes for quick recovery and transfer merit on departed war heroes including Lt. Gen. Denzil Kobbekaduwa and Maj. Gen. Vijaya Wimalaratna will be held at the Amaragallawa, Minipuragama Ranaviru Memorial Bodhi at 6 p.m. today (August 8). Ven. Tittapajjala Nanda Nayaka Thera will conduct the Bodhi Pooja.


Praise and worship service

A special service of 'Praise and Worship' will be held on August 9, 2009 (tomorrow) at 10.30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha (adjoining the BMICH) Colombo 7. This service, which is open to all, is designed to inspire spirituality and a personal experience of the love of God. The Speaker and Minister at this service, conducted under the umbrella of the ministry of 'Peace for All', will be Dr. Vijaya Corea.


Anniversary celebrations

Arethusa College Colombo has organised its 80th Anniversary Celebration today at 4.00 p.m., at the Mahaweli Center Auditorium, Colombo 7. Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana will be the chief guest. Supreme Court Judge Justice Saleem Marsoof will be the guest of honour. Principal Bimla Vidvanthy will preside. The College Website will also be launched.


Arangethram

A Baratha Natyam presentation by Prasandini and Priyadharshani Shanthakumar will be held at Bishop's College Auditorium, Colombo today (August 8) at 5.30 pm under the patronage of Deputy Justice and Law Reforms Minister V. Puththirasigamoney.

Prasandini and Priyadharshani are students of the Tamil Centre in London and daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Shanthakumar. Srimathi Siva Kumar Kanendran will be the guest of honour.


Charity

The Samatasetha Foundation together with Lanka Care UK will launch a annual scholarship award program on August 8 at the Nittambuwa Bandaranaike Library Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.


AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Old Girls' Association of Vihara Maha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Kiribathgoda will be held on August 9, 2009 (Sunday) at 2.30 p.m. at the college main hall.


Exhibition

An exhibition of design by students of Multi-Disciplinary Design will be held from August 10 to 12 at Hewood University of Visual and Performing Arts, 46, Horton Place, Colombo 7.

The Past Pupils, Association of Muslim Ladies College, Colombo has organised a pre-Ramazan sale on August 9 (Sunday) from 8.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. at the College premises.
