Childhood for sale
President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently showed his
concern about certain local TV advertisements and their adverse
impact on children. “Parents have complained to me that their young
children were affected by advertisements telecast over certain
channels and have requested me to take necessary action,” he said.
The President promised early action.

Defending peace and security in South Ossetia
August 8 marked the one-year anniversary of the
tragic events in South Ossetia. On that night the regime of Mikhail
Saakashvili made an ignoble and inhuman attack on its peaceful
inhabitants and also on the Russian peacekeepers that had for many
years defended the peace and security of the peoples living in the
fragile Transcaucasian region.
