Father of four hacked to death

A father of four and a resident of Akkarakalgoda, Abesekeragama in Angunakolapelessa was hacked to death by an unidentified gang last Tuesday.

Dayaratna Sudusinha, 48, was hacked with a sharp knife by the unidentified gang who forcibly entered the house. Angunakolapelessa police OIC H.K.K. Sunil Santha is conducting investigations on the instructions of SSP Tangalle Neil Daluwatta and ASP L.A. Gunaratna.


Alms Giving and Bodhi Pooja

The Kotalawala Defence University K.D.A. VI Army, Navy and Air Force officers have organized a ceremony to pay respect to 13 batch mates of the Academy who scarified their lives in the war, at Gangarama Temple tomorrow at 6.00 p.m. An alms giving and Bodhi Pooja will be conducted to invoke merits on them.

Meanwhile, the batch mates will meet on August 22 at Galle Face Hotel from 5.30 p.m.


Musical evening in aid of war heroes

A musical and cultural show organized by the Seva Vanitha branch of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery to raise funds in aid of war heroes, the disabled soldiers and Ranviru families of those who have sacrificed the precious lives during the battles in the North and East will be held on August 22 at the National Youth Services Council Theatre Maharagama. Several leading vocalists will participate. Music will be provided by the Sri Lanka Army Band.


Annual Children’s Day camp

The annual children’s day camp 2009 organized by the Colombo YMCA Youth and Children’s Department will be held from August 20 to 22 at the Colombo YMCA, Bristol Street, Colombo 1.

The camp is open to children between seven to 16 years. Applications will closed on August 14.


Ludowyk Memorial Lecture

The 2009 EFC Ludowyk Memorial Lecture of the Peradeniya University will be delivered by Nihal Rodirgo on “The world is a small place and Sri Lanka is in it: The impact of foreign relations on Sri Lanka’s domestic situation” on Wednesday at 4.30 p.m. at the Arts Faculty seminar room of the University.

Those who are interested are welcome.


Winners of Chemistry Graduateship Exam

The College of Chemical Sciences of the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon announced the following winners of the graduateship examination in chemistry, 2009 (first semester).

Thangavadivale, the winner of Dharmachandra and Thamarasa Gunawardhana Memorial Prize for Selected Topics in Analytical Chemistry (2760) Y.M.N.D.Y. Bandara and the winners of the Prize for Food Chemistry and Technology and (2554) G.D.M.R. Dabera and (2590) H.T.M. Sriyarathna.
