Publisher's case put off

Colombo High Court Judge Kumuduni Wickramasinghe put off the case filed against W. Jeseekaran and W. Mullerwadi under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for October 6. The Attorney General's Department filed indictment against Wettawel Jeseekaran and Wadiwel Mullerwadi on four counts for conspiring to publish North Eastern monthly magazine between June 1, 2006 and June 1, 2007 and publishing the magazine as a result of the conspiracy.

The publication was defamatory of the Government and aroused racism.

According to the indictment they had obtained funds from Non Government Organizations to publish the magazine.

W. Jeseekaran made a statement before the Court yesterday and said although he had applied for a media identity card he had not received it. But he had a media identity card of a correspondent.
