CSE activity up
Activity at the Colombo Stock Exchange got a boost from three million
shares of John Keells Holdings which crossed at Rs. 141.25 boosting
turnover to over Rs. 671 million for the day. JKH ended Tuesday down 75
cents at Rs. 141.25.
The indices dipped with the ASPI coming down by 13 points (-0.4
percent) to close at 2,964 while the more liquid MPI closed down 11
points (-0.3 percent) to close at 3,323. Retail activity was also seen
in Seylan Bank non voting shares which closed down 25 cents to Rs. 17.50
on turnover of Rs. 17 million.
Haycarb closed up Rs. 4.75 to Rs. 104.00 on turnover of Rs. 11
million.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed the day at Rs. 44.00, up 75 cents, while
Dialog Telekom closed at Rs. 7.25, up 25 cents. Of the large banks,
Commercial Bank voting shares closed down Rs. 2.75 to Rs. 173.50 and
Hatton National Bank closed at Rs. 163.00, down 75 cents. National Asset
Management, the fund management company issued a statement valuing the
NAMAL-Acuity Value Fund at Rs. 49.70. The NAVF Unit closed the day at Rs
47.75.
Asian markets were mostly down with India’s Bombay Sensex down almost
three percent while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was down 1.8 percent.
Singapore’s Straits Times Index was down 0.9 percent while China’s CSI
index up 1.3 percent. The Japanese markets were closed for holidays.
