Moves to ease traffic from Rajagiriya to Horton Place

Slow moving traffic

The stretch of road from Ayurveda Junction, Rajagiriya, to Horton Place roundabout would no longer be a motorists' headache with the new synchronized traffic light system installed within the next few days, Colombo Municipal Council Competent Authority Omar Kamil told the Daily News.

He said more than 75,000 vehicles come into the city passing the Rajagiriya Ayurveda Junction, Castle Street, D.S Senanayaka Junction up to Horton Place roundabout each day. It takes 45 minutes or one and a half hours sometimes to cover the four kilometre stretch during the rush hours in the morning, afternoon and evening. To prevent time waste and to smoothen the traffic flow, the CMC under the 100 day program have improved the traffic lights system.
