Four murder suspects taken in

A man was hacked to death by a group of people in Lelupitiya Estate, Ratnapura on Wednesday night. Four suspects were arrested in connection with the murder.

Police spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwake said a clash between two groups of people was reported in the Lelupitiya Estate at around 7.30 pm.

“A personal dispute had led to a riot between two group of people.

“A 39-year-old man was stabbed to death with a knife during the incident,” he added.

The victim died after admission to the Ratnapura hospital.

Several others injured in the clash also were treated at the hospital.

He said four suspects were apprehended in connection with the murder by Ratnapura police.

“However, the actual reason for the clash between the two groups has not been revealed,” he added. Ratnapura police are investigating.
