Post offices opened
Vavuniya SPL corr.
Deputy Post Master General of Northern Province V. Kumarakuruparan
said that after a 15-month interval the post offices at Yogapuram and
Thunukkai were started on Monday to offer a good postal service to the
resettled people.
Buddhist Panel discussion
The next Buddhist Panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be held
on Sunday November 15 at 10.00 a.m. at its Borella building on “Buddhism
and Reduction of Crime”. The Panellists are Olcott Gunasekera and
Prasantha Lal de Alwis with Rajah Kuruppu as moderator.
Great October Revolution Commemoration
The commemoration of 91st anniversary of the Great October Revolution
will be held today at 4.00 p.m. at Sugeeswara Hall, 91, Dr. N.M. Perera
Mawatha, Borella. Constitutional Affairs and National Integration
Minister and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka D.E.W.
Gunasekera will deliver the keynote address.
Tribute to poet
Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association has organized a function on
Friday, November 13, at 4.00 p.m. at Mahaweli Centre, Colombo-07 to
commemorate the 132nd birth anniversary of famous philosopher, poet of
the East Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Justice Saleem Marsoof, P.C would be
the keynote speaker on the occasion.
New course
The popular and Graduateship program in Chemistry conducted by the
professional body of Chartered Chemists of Sri Lanka is now entertaining
applications from GCE (A/L) qualifieds (including those awaiting

Alumni visit
The Ramanathan Alumni of the Peradeniya University have planned a
visit to Peradeniya.
Arrangements have been made to travel by coach from Colombo on
Sunday, December 6 accommodating 44 members. For further details,

A new computer and accessories will also be presented to the hall
society on this occasion.
Requiem Mass
The annual requiem mass for the dearly departed members of the
Benedictine family will be held on Thursday, November 12 at 6.30 p.m. at
the College Hall.
The Benedictine fraternity is invited to attend the Holy Mass to
thank the Benedictine family in Sri Lanka and abroad who worked and
served the school in the years gone by, St. Benedicts College Old Boys
Union states.
Book launch
Colomba Kavi Sanhitha, a collection of books containing the creations
of poets of the Colombo era, edited by P.M. Senaratne will be released
at a ceremony at the J.R. Jayewardene Centre, Colombo on November 19 at
4 p.m.
Prof Tissa Kariyawasam will be the Chief Guest.
Public help sought to identify body
Police Headquarters, Colombo seek public assistance to trace this man
in the photo who died on September 20, 2009 while receiving treatment at
Kalubowila hospital following an accident at 21 A, Kandawatte Road,
Nugegoda.
The deceased is around 38 years fair in complexion and five feet and
three inches in height. He is medium built with a moustache and a long
hair. His body is lying at the Kalubowila hospital morgue.
Six dengue victims in Beruwala

Six persons affected with dengue fever have been detected in Beruwala.
A crash program has been implemented to prevent the spread of
mosquito breeding spots, by the Filaria Prevention Unit, Kalutara and
Beruwala Urban Council. |
