New attractions from Laksala
The Laksala (Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board) has taken steps to uplift
the rural economy and protect the national heritage by laying special
emphasis on heavy income generating projects in addition to the
traditional handicrafts, said Laksala chairman Prasad Galhena.
Under this program, arrangements have been made to launch wood and
metal products and branch out to office and home decoration including
partitioning curtaining and electrical wiring.
Laksala also started a customer service from November 1 to attend to
electricity failures.
As part of its program to protect the national heritage, Laksala has
started a Mangala Arana service to cater to wedding receptions by
providing food and clothing. Dress and food habits endemic to the
relevant regions will be given preference through this catering service,
he said. |
