Man flees after attack

A sailor on civil duty was critically injured yesterday after he was stabbed by an unidentified person at Reclamation Road, Colombo, Police said.

The attack took place as a group of people from the Colombo Port Trade Union were leaving the area.

The attacker fled the scene after the assault, said Police.

Police spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwake said the incident occurred at around 12.50 p.m. when the sailor was on civil duty at Colombo Port's Gate-4.

The victim admitted to the Colombo National Hospital underwent surgery, he said.

Fort Police are investigating.
