Water Board also to get pay hike

Water Supply Minister Mahinda Amaraweera met the trade union officials of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board at the Treasury on Thursday to discuss the demand of the TUs for a salary hike.

They were informed of the Government decision to increase the salaries of the NWS&DB employees by 22 percent from November 1, the Minister told the Daily News yesterday.

However some TU officials had asked for an even higher salary hike and they were informed that any further increase of salaries could be given by increasing rates charged for water supply to the public, he said.

The trade unions had agreed not to sabotage or interrupt the water supply systems.

The work to rule of the past two days by some of the employs of the NWS&DB had not affected the water supply, the Minister said.
