Queen of the Sri Lankan silver screen Malani Fonseka returned to the
country yesterday with the Best Actress Award she won at the Levante
International Film Festival, Bari, Italy.
She clinched the award for Akasa Kusum (Flowers of the Sky), scripted
and directed by Prasanna Vithanage and produced by H.D. Premasiri and A.
Shrikar Prasad.
This is the second Best Actress Award she bagged at an international
film festival.
Many fellow artistes and those linked with the field were present to
welcome her at the airport.
Speaking to the gathering at the airport, Malani said she is
delighted to bring honour and fame to the country.
"It is one of the biggest achievements in my life," said the actress
who had portrayed the role of the aging film actress Sandya Rani in the
movie. Malini was also nominated for the best actress award at the Asia
Pacific (APF) Film Awards ceremony for Akasa Kusum. She will be flying
to Australia next week to attend the Awards ceremony which will be held
on November 26 and is organized by the Asia Pacific Cinema Academy for
the third consecutive year.
