UN Under - Secretary General observes progress

UN Under Secretary General Sir John Holmes has told Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama that he was able to see progress since his previous visit, said a press release issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry yesterday.

Expressing his pleasure to be in Sri Lanka a gain under "more positive circumstances" Sir Holmes has stated that he was "encouraged" by the fact that people were "adjusting to peace".

He visited Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar and IDP resettlement sites, during his current visit.

Foreign Minister Bogollagama requested Sir Holmes to consider providing more assistance in the areas of demining, infrastructure development and livelihood enhancement for the recently resettled IDPs, the press release further said.
