Water project in Siyambalanduwa
The UNDP Art Gold project, Neo-synthesis Research Centre and Future
in our hands jointly implemented a drinking water project in
Siyambalanduwa.
In the past, Siyambalanduwa had been contributing much to agriculture
production.
There had been many irrigation tanks. During foreign invasion these
traditions and resources had been destroyed. As a result the
Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretary area had been listed as the most
poorest in the country, said Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretary
Prageeth Kulathilaka at the launching ceremony of Environmental
Conservation of 50 drinking water wells in the area.
He said farmers in the area clear the jungle, set fire to the jungle
and cultivate the catchment areas for short term benefits.
As a result, eight months of this year people had to suffer to find
out drinking water.
This was experienced after 50 years in the history. Environmental
conservation is the most priority activity in the area. |
