Udu Nuwara, Yati Nuwara worst hit by rain

The Udu Nuwara and Yati Nuwara areas of Kandy is reportedly the worst
hit areas of floods and heavy rains experienced in various parts of the
country with over forty houses devastated and twenty nine partly
damaged. Forty people were reported displaced by the floods.
Assistant Director Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili on
Thursday said, they have been instructed by Disaster Management and
Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe to provide the affected with
emergency relief supplies.
The Disaster Management Centre has requested 2,000 roofing sheets
from the Ministry to be given to the affected to temporarily settle in
their partly damaged houses.
It is working closely with the Disaster Relief Services Ministry's
relief centres and divisional secretariats of the affected districts to
provide the flood victims with their basic food and other needs,
Kodippili said..
We were able to introduce an Emergency Relief Supply Scheme to help
the affected and the displaced with basic provisions by on Thursday,
said the Assistant Director.
More than 58,041 persons have been affected by the floods. Of them
46,041 are from Colombo, 8570 from Kalutara, 3,185 from Gampaha, and 225
from Kandy , sources at the Disaster Management Centre said. |
