The Export Development Board will introduce a National Export Development Strategy, a 10-year plan, aimed at strong growth and sustained development of the export sector, early next year.

Call to develop horticulture sector

Sri Lanka has a promising, but virtually an untapped potential as an exporter of high value horticulture products to nearby markets in the Maldives and Persian Gulf. Due to its tropical location and two monsoons, many types of tropical fruits and vegetables can be grown throughout the year.

The Agri, Livestock, Fisheries - SMEDEX-2009 exhibition organized by the Small and Medium Enterprise Developers (SMED) of the FCCISL was held at the BMICH from November 20-22. Agri products were displayed in a creative and attractive manner. A number of stalls displayed various kinds of traditional grain packeted, ready-to-cook such as Olu rice, Meneri Thana Haal and Amu which are enriched with high nutrition. The exhibition comprised 70 stalls including agri services providers, the Coconut Development Board, Lanka Puthra Bank and various fish producing companies.
