Kelaniya University confers Sahithya Chakravarthi on President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was conferred the honorary degree of Sahithya Chakravarthi by the Kelaniya University at its 48th convocation held at the BMICH Colombo on Friday.

Chancellor of the University Ven. Dr. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Chief Sanghanayake Thera of Colombo and Chilaw districts presided. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, three Security Forces Commanders and the Director General of the Civil Defence Force were also conferred D.Phil degrees at this convocation. The degrees were conferred on the President and the Defence Secretary and the former Army Commander in absentia while Air Force Commander and CDS Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunatillake, former Navy Commander Admiral Vasantha Karannagoda, former IGP Jayantha Wickremaratne and Civil Security Force Director General Jayantha Weerasekara were conferred D.Phil degrees.
