Peace drive backed
The Sri Lanka National Congress will support the program of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa and will become a constituent party of the UPFA, said
its Leader Milinda Moragoda.
“We will support the drive to achieve sustainable peace and unity
among communities,” Moragoda, who is also the Justice and Law Reforms
Minister said. He said: “The President’s leadership, coupled with the
stability our support provided, enabled our Armed Forces to achieve a
decisive victory over the LTTE.”
“Now, we must restore harmony among our communities, heal the wounds
of conflict and bring unity to our people,” he said addressing his
fellow citizens.
He added: “Although the deadly conflict that caused so much suffering
throughout our country has ended, we may have to live for a while longer
with the resultant hardships and political uncertainties. We all want an
end to enmity and violence and long for a time when our leaders will
work together to give us the progress we have been so long denied.”
“This letter brings you three messages to assure you of my continued
commitment to that task, and to the ethical and social principles that
have always guided me; to let you know of my current plans for the
achievement of those goals; and - most importantly - to invite you to
join me in carrying out those plans. It is only with your continued
support that our efforts can succeed.” |
