Resettled civilians receive livelihood support

A stock of water pumps, boats, fishing gear and nets was distributed among farmers and fishing communities who were resettled in their original lands in Vavuniya to uplift their living standards.

Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP handed over boats, fishing gear and nets for 64 families who are engaged in aqua culture industry and 28 water pumps for farmers at a ceremony held recently at the Security Forces Headquarters in Wanni.

In addition, Basil Rajapaksa MP as the Chairman of the President’s Task Force for rehabilitation and resettlement had handed over 37 tractors and other agriculture and fishing equipment provided by the Asian Development Bank to resettled civilians in Vavuniya, Mannar and Mulaitivu areas last week.

Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said civilians who were resettled in their native places in the North have commenced their farming and fishing.
