Wickramabahu in the fray

The Left Front (LF) yesterday decided to field Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratna as its candidate for the up-coming Presidential Election. Addressing a media conference held at Hotel Nippon yesterday Left Front Leader Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratna said that today people were unable to resolve their basic problems under this Government. We cannot claim to be a free and democratic country unless we resolve the national problem and stop international interference in our affairs.

The LF wanted to disclose all hidden hands before the masses by nominating a candidate for the Presidential Election. The main objective is to rally the masses around the party and its policy, Dr. Karunaratna added. He further said the people in the country in general are today made poor. A majority of youth are unemployed. The cost of living is simply unbearable and the working masses are forced to bear the cost of war.

Commenting on the candidature of General Sarath Fonseka Dr. Karunaratna said that he is being put forward by global powers who like to see Sri Lanka in a state of anarchy.
