Two Police constables were admitted to hospital after they were
attacked by a group of persons under the influence of liquor in
Ataweerawewa Kekirawa on Tuesday evening. Police spokesman SSP I.M.
Karunaratna said two PCs of the Kekirawa police were engaged in traffic
duty when they came under attack by the group at around 4.00 p.m.
The incident had occurred at the 94th mile post along the A9 road in
Kekirawa.
“The PCs on traffic duty have observed eight persons sleeping along
the road.
“When they tried to evict them from the road, they were suddenly set
up by the group. The suspects also snatched the high speed detecting
machine and a walkie-talkie from the PCs,” he added.
Five suspects were arrested and police are hunting for three others
