UN fosters stand against gender violence

UN: United Nations focused activities on Tuesday to promote the struggle to eliminate violence against women, on the occasion of the Tenth Anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The main activity for the occasion was the presentation of a so-called network of male leaders made up of political, religious, cultural and community figures worldwide devoted to work for the elimination of violence against women.

During the presentation, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon denounced that 70 percent of the women suffer one or more forms of physical or sexual violence at a certain point in their lives. Ban called men to change attitude and join efforts against these practices in violation of women's rights. The network of leaders is part of the campaign "Unite," which is a project started last year, promoted by Ban Ki Moon, to fight the said scourge.
