No more road closure for VIP movements

The Government yesterday decided not to close roads in the Colombo city during VIP movements

According to Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, the Government arrived at this decision after close evaluation of the country's security situation.

The Parliament road and several other roads were closed from time to time to facilitate VIP movements with the increase of LTTE threat to the lives of VIPs.

He said the stretch of the Galle road from Kollupitiya to Galle Face Green is now open to the public and one side of the road opposite Temple Trees was also open for vehicular movements.

Brigadier Nanayakkara said the road leading to the Galadari Hotel roundabout was also opened from the Lake House roundabout from yesterday. CP
