Quick start for livelihood development in North

The Re-awakening Project has taken the initiatives to expedite
livelihood development activities at a cost of Rs: 854 million in the
Northern Province, said Project Director P. H. Sugathadasa at a special
discussion at the Re-awakening Project office in Jaffna yesterday.
The project has launched this program with the financial assistance
of the World Bank, and it has already commenced livelihood development
activities in the Jaffna and Mannar districts.
The project has now extended its development activities to areas
where displaced people have already been resettled in Mullaithivu and
Kilinochchi.
This program will assist over 35,767 families consisting of 142,340
persons in 120 selected villages in the Northern peninsula.
The project will assist these people to recommence their livelihood
development activities and will also undertake infrastructure
development activities such as rehabilitation of irrigation tanks,
canals, roads, providing of drinking water facilities and all essential
needs.
The project has given full authority for people in the area to select
suitable projects which will be implemented with community
participation.
