No state land alienation

It has been reported to President Mahinda Rajapaksa that a covert move was afoot to alienate state land to private parties during the election campaign period.

The President has directed officials concerned that no state land should be alienated during the elections.

Thera passes away


Venerable Dr
Uyanwatte Gnanaloka Thera

Sri Gnanawimala Sobitha Vansalankara Saddharma Bharathie Sasthra Visharadha, Venerable Dr. Uyanwatte Gnanaloka Thera the Chief Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka and the Chief Incumbent of Sri Gnanawimalaramaya of Wewalduwa, Kelaniya passed away on November 26 at the age of 61. The cremation will take place on Monday at Dingiyawaththa playground, Wewalduwa, Kelaniya. The remains of the late Thera lie at the Sri Gnanawimalaramaya.


Death of S K Neththananda

The death occurred of S.K. Neththananda a former Principal of Ananda College, Colombo and a well-known author.

He was 85. His remains are lying at his residence at No. 22/5, Nisansala Pedesa, Temple Road, Attidiya, Dehiwala.

Funeral takes place at the Galkissa Cemetery on Saturday, November 28 afternoon.


Eid-Ul-Azha prayers

Eid-Ul-Azha Festival Prayers organized by the Memon Association of Sri Lanka will be held at the Colombo Municipal Ground (Race Course) today at 8.00 a.m.


Lecture

The Conference of Sri Lankan Malays (Coslam) will conduct the Monthly Islamic lecture series 'In the shade of the Holy Qur'an' at the YMMA Conference Main Auditorium, No 63, Sri Vajiragnana road, Dematagoda, Colombo 9 on December 1 at 10.00 a.m.


Memorial oration

The S.R. Kottegoda memorial meeting will be held on November 30 at 5 p.m. at the SLAAS Auditorium 120/10, Vidya Mawatha, (off Wijerama Mawatha) Colombo 7. The oration will be delivered by Prof Carlo Fonseka on Ten ethical commandments for scientific researchers.


Christmas sale

The Dutch Burgher Union of Ceylon will hold its annual Christmas sale on December 6 from 10 a.m. A variety of items will be on sale.


Thamaam Majlis

The 122nd Manaqib Thamaam Majlis in memory of Saint His Holiness Sulthanul Aarifeen Seyedna Ahamadul Kabeerur Rifayee will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Mohideen Jumma Masjid, Kapuwatte, Weligama.


Concert

The Old Girls' Association of Pushpadana Girls' College, Kandy is organizing a concert by Kasun Kalhara and Nirosha Virajini titled Sanda Ona on November 28 at 6.30 p.m. at the Bishop's College Auditorium.


New Indian High Commissioner Alok K. Kantha called on Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maitripala Sirisena at his official residence in Colombo recently.
