More IDPs to be resettled in Mullaitivu, Vavuniya districts

More than 10,000 IDPs would be resettled in Thunukkai, Poonagari and
Mallavi areas while another 18,000 IDPs would be resettled in Vavuniya
North within the next few days, Northern Province Governor G.A.
Chandrasiri said yesterday.
Each resettled family is given 12 to 18 roofing sheets, 10 bags of
cement, material to build fences around their houses, squatting pans for
latrines, kitchen utensils, dry rations for six months and a financial
assistance of Rs. 50,000 to build partly damaged houses and a sum of Rs.
350,000 to rebuild a fully damaged house he said.
Each resettled villager will get three three-wheelers worth one
million rupees, so that they could use them in an emergency like going
to hospital during an emergency illness, he further said.
The officers of the Northern Provincial Council numbering 146 were
provided with bicycles yesterday to visit the villages and work among
the IDPs to sort out any problems. He had written to the Defence
Ministry to allow the Government vehicles to ply on the A9 road as he
said only public transport and lorries were allowed to run on A9 road,
he noted.
