SLBFE program in Matara

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) is starting a program to prepare and encourage skilled and semi-skilled persons to go for employment abroad and it will be started at the grassroots level at Matara shortly, SLBFE Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said.

The program at village level will harness the support of the grassroots public officer like the Grama Niladharis, Samurdhi Officers, Agriculture Officers, Youth Resource Officers and other society leaders like secretaries of sports clubs.

This program would educate them to act as change agents to ensure that people who seek employment abroad were semi-skilled or skilled so that they would derive greater economic benefit that the unskilled persons.

It was expected that around 150 such local officers and society leaders would be trained in each Divisional Secretary’s area of authority and it was and the new program with vocational training officers would take about two months, he noted.
