Four hour water cut tomorrow
There will be a four hour disruption of water supply to several areas
in Colombo and suburbs serviced by the Ambatale water purification plant
tomorrow (December 6) from noon to 4 p.m. on account of a temporary
disconnection of electricity by the CEB to facilitate urgent maintenance
work.
The areas affected are the Colombo MC area, Peliyagoda UC area,
Wattala-Mabole UC area, Ja-Ela UC and Pradeshiya Sabha areas, Kelaniya
PS area, Wattala PS area, Mahara PS area, Dompe PS area, Biyagama PS
area and Export Promotion Zone, Dekatana and Malwana, Kesbewa UC area,
Boralesgamuwa UC area, Maharagama MC area, Kotte and Kolonnawa MC areas,
Kotikawatta and Mulleriyawa PS areas, Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia MC area
Kaldemulla, Soysapura and Thelawala in the Moratuwa UC area and
Battaramulla, Hokandara and Malabe in the Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha
area.
AGM
The 15th Annual General Meeting of Zahira College Colombo Group of
‘80 will be held today at 6.30 p.m. at Al Makthoom Auditorium, Zahira
College. Group of ‘80 President, Alavi Mukthar will preside.
Concert
The annual concert of Kinds of Lanka Nursery School, Colombo will be
held tomorrow at 3.00 p.m. at the YMBA, Borella, Colombo. ITN Board of
Director Hashim Omar will be the chief guest.
Foundation laying ceremony
The foundation laying ceremony for the M.H.M. Ashraff Memorial
Building at Colombo/Sir Razick Fareed Madhya Vidyalaya (Navodhya School)
will be held on December 9 at 9.00 a.m.
Western Provincial Council Chief Minister, Prasanna Ranathunga, will
be the chief guest. Colombo District MP Shafeek Rajabdeen will be the
guest of honour.
Get-together
A get-together and farewell to the principal organised by Carey
College Old Boy’s Union will be held at the Global Tower, Roof Top,
Marine Drive, Wellawatte, Colombo 06 on December 5 from 7.00 p.m.
Navy calls for applications
The Sri Lanka Navy has called in application for the recruitment of
officer cadets to the sailor, supplies, naval engineering and the
electro/electronic engineering divisions.

Schoolboy's body found in river

The body of a schoolboy aged 15, was found in the Kelani river in
Biyagama at 3.15 p.m. yesterday.
The body has been identified as that of Ihalage Piyal Kumara of
43/75, Sooriyathanna, Udupila, Delgoda. The boy was a grade 10 student
of Biyagama Central College.
The school principal helped police to identify the body.
Fined for beating woman with cane

An accused who pleaded guilty to the charge of thrashing a woman with
a cane with the intention of causing injury or with the knowledge that
it could cause an injury, when she was in his custody and protection,
was imposed a fine of Rs.1,000 and in default, six months simple
imprisonment by the Chilaw High Court Judge Ms. H.C.J. Medawala.
In this case, between July 31 and July 30, 2002, in Dankotuwa, in the
jurisdiction of Chilaw High Court, the accused who was in the custody
and protection of a female, had beat her with a cane in a manner to harm
or cause injury to the victim.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against him. |
