Actor's house burgled

Thieves broke into the house of a popular teledrama actor and removed gold jewellery to the value of over Rs one million at Mawilmada in Kandy.

The inmates were away in Colombo at the time of burglary. The thieves had gained entry to the house through the roof.


Thera passes away

Ven. Nawala Chandawimala Thera of Siddattarama Viharaya, Nawala, a former teacher of Isipathana College, Colombo passed away after a brief illness. He was 55. A well-known preacher, the Ven. Chandawimala Thera was engaged in propagation of dhamma here and abroad.

He was the brother of veteran actor Gamini Hettiarachchi, former Government Agent Jayampathi Hettiarachchi and Athula Hettiarachchi, Proprietor of Opulant Caterers, Nawala. The cremation will take place at 3 p.m. today at the General Cemetery, Nawala.


Carols

The Colombo South International College, Kalubowila will present a Christmas carol service with 09 lessons on Wednesday, December 16 at 05.30 pm at the College Auditorium.

The Guest Speaker will be Director General of Christian Education in Colombo Diocese Rev. Father Ranjith Madurawela.


X'mas service

A Christian Unity christmas service and carols will be held on Sunday, December 13 from 4 pm to 6.30 pm at the Community Centre, No 19, De Alwis Place, Dehiwela.


Christmas Party

The annual Christmas party of the Sri Lanka Housewives' Association Colombo (Parent Body) will be held on Tuesday, December 15 at the Public Library Auditorium from 2.30 to 6.00 p.m.

Agriculture and Mahaweli Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena met the public opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station on Thursday and surprised them by distributing free vegetable plants and seedlings. Here the Minister distributing the plants as an incentive to encourage home gardening among the public. The home gardening program started under the national food production drive has succeeded in people taking to it as profitable hobby.
