Trip raises doubts

A grave doubt exists whether the trip made some weeks back by Sarath Fonseka as Chief of Defence Staff to the USA was to make a political decision to betray the country as his present conduct showed it, Foreign Employment Promotion Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.

"His effort to betray the country and the armed forces was foiled by diplomatic and Government level intervention, he said addressing a press conference in Kandy. Rambukwella said there was a doubt now whether the same dubious political motives prompted the Channel 4 affair.

"The savage terrorist leaders did not come to lullaby Maj Gen Shavendra Silva and other officers of the Armed Forces. Not only the present generation but unborn generations of the future will not forgive the betrayal of Sarath Fonseka," he said.
