Moors honour President

The Moors’ Islamic Cultural Home says it rightfully recognises the extensive and excellent contribution rendered by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during the last four years of his tenure.

Its president, Omar Kamil in a citation and address on the conferment of gold medallion upon the President states the President’s significant and successful direction and effort steered Sri Lanka in establishing peace and tranquillity following a disastrous and disturbed period over three decades.


St. Paul’s Christmas presentation

National convention of Buddhist clergy at Panadura

The Sri Lanka Freedom Bhikku Organization will hold a national convention of the Buddhist clergy at the historic Rankoth Vihara, Panadura, today with University of Kelaniya Chancellor, the Most Ven Welemitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayake Thera, the University of Sabaragamuwa Chancellor. The Most Ven Kumburugamuwe Vajira Nayake Thera and several other distinguished members of the clergy participating, a press release from the SLFBO said.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka, Foreign Trade Development Minister Prof G.L.Peiris will also be attending the event, it said.


Lawyers’ welfare day and Christmas bazaar

The Colombo Law Society has organized the Members’ Welfare Day and the Christmas Bazaar on December 15 and 16 at the Colombo High Court Premises from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Members will be able to obtain their National Identity Cards, Passports, obtain advice on the New Driving Licence, Bar Association Identity Cards, Bar Association and Colombo Law Society Membership, Car passes for 2010.


Buddhist talk

Prof. Raja de Alwis will deliver a Public Buddhist talk in English on “The Art of Letting Go” at a meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society on Saturday, December 19 at 4.30 p.m. at the Maitri Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.


Awards for 260 artistes

The Kala Vibhushana awards ceremony will be held at the John De Silva Memorial Hall today to honour Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim artistes.

The award ceremony is organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Department of Hindu Affairs and the Department of Muslim Affairs.

This year 260 artistes will be awarded the Kala Vibushana at the ceremony which includes 200 Sinhala artistes, 40 Tamil artistes and 20 Muslim artistes.


Concert

The Annual School concert and colour celebration ‘Black and White’ of Rawdha Al Athfal (Dematagoda Road) will be held today at Bishop’s College auditorium at 3.30 p.m.
