Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Secretary General Dr.
William Ferdinand Shija, will be arriving in Sri Lanka today. He will be
here until January 20. The main objective of the visit is to conduct
preliminary discussions with Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara,
Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Kitulgoda and other officials
regarding the 58th CPA conference to be held in Sri Lanka.
A Tanzania, Dr. Shija holds a doctorate in Mass Communication from
Howard University, USA and has been a member of the National Assembly of
Tanzania from 1990 to 2005.
He has held various ministerial posts during his political career and
has authored numerous academic and parliamentary papers in communication
and development.
Dr. Shija assumed duties as CPA Secretary-General on January 1, 2007.
Dr. Shija will meet with several dignitaries including the Speaker.
He is also scheduled to travel to Kandy to visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa,
the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawala.
