In short

Khan for Valentine

A scene from the movie

The much anticipated Shah Rukh- Kajol starrer My Name Is Khan (MNIK) hits the screens globally this Valentine weekend from February 12. “It’s an emotional drama. It’s about a man and his wife but there is a lot of issues and very interesting plot points,” an elated Karan Johar revealed about his upcoming project.

He also adds that the movie had been the toughest project yet but being able to rope in his ‘God Sent Couple’ is a triumph itself.

“The best thing about the film is that one would feel that it is not the same Karan Johar who had made films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, who has also set out to make MNIK.

I am of the opinion that to break your form is far more challenging than to play in your own safety zone as a filmmaker by adhering to the norms of the rule and formula and making a film for which you are remembered,” he added “MNIK is very special for both Karan and me. Unlike the rumors, it’s not about terrorism, or 9/11.

“It’s about a relationship between two people, between an individual and the State, and between an individual and the country.

“In short, there the three important components: love story, Islam and a mild form of autism, which forms the core of MNIK,” explains Shah Rukh who portrays the lead role of Rizwan Khan in the movie.

‘Crime and Punishment’ at RCC

A screen adoption of the novel by the great Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky. A genius may indeed be an understatement. Decade after decade, his literary brilliance continues to capture the hearts and minds of millions. Desperate young man plans the perfect crime - the murder of a despicable pawnbroker, an old woman no one loves and no one will mourn.

Is it not just, he reasons, for a man of genius to commit such a crime, to transgress moral law - if it will ultimately benefit humanity? So begins one of the greatest novels ever written: a powerful psychological study, a terrifying murder mystery, a fascinating detective thriller infused with philosophical, religious and social commentary.

‘Crime And Punishmen’t takes on a journey into the darkest recesses of the criminal and depraved mind, and exposes the soul of a man possessed by both good and evil ... a man who cannot escape his own conscience.

The film will be screened at the Russian Center, Colombo, (RCC) on January 28 and February 3 at 6 p.m. Entrance free.
