He said Sri Lanka could be a good competitor to India as Sri Lanka has experience, quality, human resources, better project management capabilities, IT infrastructure, geographical location and reasonable prices.

“The country is much flexible in adapting the latest technology and is prepared to compete with any standard.

“Compared to the other countries in the region it is much easy to work with the Sri Lankan IT professionals,” he said.

EVES Information Technology Lanka, Managing Director/CEO Niranka Nonis said that EVES Information Technology Lanka, has exported software over Rs 12 million during last year to Germany and expect to reach a target of Rs 20 million this year.

The collaboration of Sri Lanka and Germany has proved that outsourcing of software has achieved a good market and a reputation in Europe. “We expect to expand the business into the Asian and European markets in the long-term. There are many opportunities in the Asian market as Asia has the fastest emerging economies in the world such as China and India.

“In the European market we have gained experience and good reputation for the projects that we have completed in Germany. In the short-term prospect we hope to expand the business into Indian and East Asian markets in the near future,” he said.

Nonis said there was not much affect from the global economic meltdown to the IT industry in the country. But there will be a shortage of IT professionals in Sri Lanka with the high demand and IT professionals and many migrating to other countries. Therefore, the Government, universities and the industry need to ensure sufficient capacity to cater to the demand and build capacity within the country.

He said in Germany the IT market is very rigid, but in Sri Lanka it is much flexible and has the ability of adapt to latest technology easily.

German consumers are confident with our performance and it is a good market for a developing software market like Sri Lanka. Therefore, we are optimistic in venturing into the other markets as well.
